Description
In 2018, we returned to the Watergate Bay Hotel, this time with a brief for a beach-front sauna, built into the rock face. The sauna is totally exposed to the Atlantic Ocean, and so constructed to an extremely high standard to withstand the external elements - corrosive sea water and gale force winds. We used glass extensively, giving bathers a stunning ocean and beach view. The alder twin-tier bench arrangement, LED lighting, traditional Finnish stove with volcanic rocks, essence pail and back-rests, all provide the best of sauna bathing.
The sauna complements our earlier installation of a traditional Canadian red-cedar barrel hot tub with a simple bench seat and jets on the deck outside the pool, looking out over the beach and the ocean.
The two outdoor wellness features offer a great contrast to the main indoor infinity pool we fitted in 2011.
